Vör (pronounced: "Vur") is a goddess in Norse mythology associated with wisdom and vigilance. She is one of the lesser-known deities of the Æsir lineage and is only mentioned briefly in the Prose Edda by Snorri Sturluson.

Vör's name is derived from the Old Norse adjective "vǫrr," which means "watchful" or "vigilant." Some scholars have suggested that Vör may have been a goddess of truth or of oaths, given the association with vigilance and awareness.

The name "Vör" in Old Norse runes is written as:

ᚢᚢᚱ

In the Prose Edda, Vör is described as the tenth Ásynjur (goddess) and is characterized as wise and curious. It is said that no one can hide anything from her, as she is always aware of what is going on. A proverb is also attributed to her, which states that "a woman becomes acquainted with any information she holds."

Despite her reputation as a wise and vigilant goddess, little else is known about Vör. She is not mentioned in any other sources of Norse mythology, and there are no known myths or legends that feature her as a central figure.

Scholars have debated the significance of Vör in Norse mythology, and some have even questioned whether she was a goddess at all. Rudolf Simek, for example, has suggested that Vör may have been a conceptual figure rather than an actual deity. He argues that her association with vigilance and awareness may have been more symbolic than literal, and that she may have represented the idea of being watchful and aware.

Others, however, have suggested that Vör was a goddess with a specific role in Norse mythology. Andy Orchard, for example, argues that Vör was one of a group of female protective deities, along with Sága, Hlín, Sjöfn, Snotra, and others. According to Orchard, these goddesses were responsible for specific spheres of private life and acted as matrons or guardians.

Vör remains a mysterious figure in Norse mythology, with little information available about her origins, significance, or role. While some scholars have suggested that she may have been a conceptual figure or a part of a group of protective deities, her true nature and importance remain unclear. Nevertheless, her association with vigilance and wisdom has led to her being remembered as a symbol of awareness and knowledge in Norse mythology.

Please note that the information provided about Vör and Norse mythology is complex and may be subject to interpretation and debate. The myths and stories of Norse mythology have evolved and been passed down through oral tradition and written accounts, and there may be variations in the way they are told and understood. This information should be used as a general reference and not as a definitive source on the subject.
